YAML Tools
YAML (YAML Ain't Markup Language) is designed for configuration files that humans write and maintain. Unlike JSON, YAML supports comments, multi-line strings and anchors — making it the format of choice for CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI), container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker Compose) and infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, Helm).
YAML's flexibility comes with a well-known gotcha: YAML 1.1 parsers used by Docker Compose, GitHub Actions and Ansible silently coerce bare yes, no, on and off to booleans, and time-like values like 22:30 to integers. The YAML Formatter's Fix YAML 1.1 Risks button detects and auto-quotes these values before they cause production surprises.
YAML is also a superset of JSON — every valid JSON document is valid YAML. Use the converters below to move freely between the two formats.
YAML Formatter
FlagshipFormat and validate YAML. Detects YAML 1.1 coercion risks, expands anchors, converts to JSON. Load from URL.
YAML Validator
Check YAML syntax with line-level error reporting. Catches indentation errors and missing colons.
